Saturday, August 16, 2014 On Saturday at 3:17 pm, as ATV-740 and Boat-740 crews were returning to quarters after their monthly river rescue training, they were dispatched to Lake Needwood for a reported injured hiker. ATV-740 arrived on scene and coordinated with Command (Chief-705-Charlie, and ECC (Dispatch) to establish the victim’s location. Once the location was identified, Chief Connell directed ATV-740 onto the correct hiking path and to the patient. The victim was evaluated, loaded onto the ATV’s stretcher, and transported to an awaiting EMS Unit in the parking area.
Sandy Spring Volunteer Fire Dept. operates two ATV units out of Company 40… ATV-740 which is a all terrain ambulance style unit used on this incident, and ATV-740 Bravo, which is designed for fighting brush fires in hard to reach areas. Both units have proved to be invaluable to the department and the community we serve.
